March 19, 2019, marks the birth centenary of the musician D.K. Pattammal, who was known for adherence to the tradition, diction and perfection in Carnatic music.
A year of celebration was inaugurated by the Vice President of the India, Venkaiah Naidu on March 17, 2018. Many events, concerts, sessions were organised throughout the year by DKP 100 Trust and the finale will take place on March 19, 2019, at The Music Academy, Madras.
The trust in a dedicated Facebook Page DKP 100 and has been posting audios and videos of the music of D.K. Pattammal with snippets every day for the past one year.
The finale event 'The Voice of Eternity' will feature musicians from four States of South India, Malladi brothers, Rudrapatnam brothers, Sreevalsan Menon and Neyveli Santhanagopalan. Poorna Kala, the event will present the rich music that DKP was known for, Embar Kannan (violin) Mannargudi Easwaran( mridangam) and Anirudh Athreya (kanjira) will be on the instruments with the team of vocalists. A coffee table book, 'A Maestro and Her Eternal Music', written by Shantha Thiagarajan, will be released on the occasion. Arun Ram, Resident Editor, Times of India will receive the first copy of the book. The special guest on the occasion are, religious speaker Prema Pandurang, Bharatanatyam exponent Dr. Vyjayanthimala Bali and playback singer P. Susheela.
The event starts at 5.30 p.m. at the Music Academy Main hall and is open to all rasikas.
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai is organising an event to celebrate DKP 100 on March 21, 2019, at its main auditorium. A thematic concert titled 'Eppadi Padinaro!' will be presented by Gayathri Girish along with Mysore Srikanth (violin), J. Vaidyanathan (Mridangam) and Anirudh Athreya (Kanjira).
The concert will begin at 6.30 p.m. and is open to all.
